Oakland’s Bob Melvin praises fiery second baseman Jemile Weeks as Athletics beat Texas Rangers 4-3
The Oakland Athletics were content on Thursday, September 22 to see their team avoid a clean sweep at Oakland Coliseum. The club went up against the Texas Rangers in their third fixture and produced a stunning late win, courtesy Jemile Weeks.
The club manager Bob Melvin was present at the post game press address to express his views about the second baseman and the fans that backed up the squad at home.
Weeks scored three times and all those runs were important as the A’s closed a bad run in recent games. The fiery second baseman tormented Colby Lewis as he drew the first run against him in the first inning after Josh Willingham smashed an RBI double. Weeks
then came out in the sixth to hit his first home-run of the season. David DeJesus got the A’s to an even 3-3 in the seventh.
Jemile then came in the eighth to run home on an RBI single from Coco Crisp. Melvin was proud of his star player. Weeks put in a tremendous effort during the game.
"We've seen him come up with a lot of big hits for us over the course of the time he's been here," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "He seems to be bigger and bigger in big situations and a guy we count on."
The manager was also delighted by the fans that turned up to back the team up against the American League West leaders.
"Our fans were big for us today, they really were," Melvin said. "They were into it big time at the end. We wanted to play well on the last day."
The gaffer further went on to state that the fans are passionate and vocal in the Coliseum. Melvin praised Jemile Weeks for his brilliant performance in the three game series against the Rangers. Weeks is looking to continue his winning momentum in the season.
It will be interesting to see what impact Weeks will have for the A’s against other top tier MLB teams during the regular season.
