Question:

Oakley M-Frame Strike Ballistic Lenses + Prescription Lenses?

I'm going on a road trip this summer and will be driving. I figured it'd be nice to have some sunglasses (I've been eyeing specific Oakleys - M-Frames and Half Jackets, no pun intended), but I need prescription glasses when I drive. So I figured I'd just get the frames for one of them and get my eye doctor to make me some custom prescription lenses.

BUT...

later this year I will be joining the Canadian Forces Reserves. And many of my friends who are current reservists and reg. force members have told me the issued eyewear protection is total c**p, gives you mad headaches, and when you add a prescription lens attachement, you'd rather not see.

So assuming that my section or platoon leader, whoever that may be, let's me use non-issue eyewear, my questions are:

-how do I buy from Oakley prescription M-Frames?

-would a private eye doctor make ballistic-rated custom lenses?

Sorry for long-ness.

Thanks in advance!

  1. M-Frames and Half Jackets cannot have prescription lenses put into them in the normal way, they can only have prescription inserts added behind the sunglass lenses - this is less than ideal for general use. Many other Oakley sunglasses however can hold prescription lenses - these are made by Oakley's lab with the same tints etc. You would need polycarbonate lenses to be 'ballistic-rated'. Oakley prescription lenses are available in polycarbonate.

You just need to find an Oakley supplying optometrist near you - see the Oakley website for a list
