Oakville boys volleyball team defeats St. Louis University High by 2-1 – Volleyball news
The Oakville boys volleyball team had much reason to celebrate on Friday.
The Tigers managed to defeat St. Louis University High by 2-1. In achieving this win, the Tigers have managed to keep their undefeated season intact. Not only that, the Tigers have also become the first public school that has been able to win the final of
the Class 4 state tournament.
Despite the fact that they lost the match, SLUH did not go down without putting up a commendable fight. Each set of the match was closely contested. By the time that the crowd at Kirkwood was cheering along with the Tigers on achieving such a well-deserved
win while the SLUH team was heading out of the court with heavy steps, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores that narrated the story of the night in short, 25-22, 20-25 and 30-28.  
The tigers have won the championship title with holding a brilliant performance statistic. The number of wins that they have been able to bag in this season tally at an impressive figure of 35.
These victories have been achieved at an even more impressive feat of suffering no defeat at all in this season overall. As opposed to the performance statistics of the Tigers, SLUH does not boast of an equally impressive record.
The number of times that SLUH has been able to tally wins total to be 29. These victories have been bagged at the cost of incurring two losses in this season in all. Not only that, SLUH has also been in a tie situation for as many as four times.
The first set of the match started off with both the teams going for the kill. What followed was an intense struggle to gain dominance at the court between the Tigers and SLUH. This is shown by the fact that the opening set saw a total of 14 ties and also
featured seven lead changes. The score was close at 23-22 in favour of the Tigers, who eventually managed to bag the first set at 25-22.
After losing the opening set of the game, SLUH managed to step up and put in more energy in the second set. The increased efforts from the SLUH side propelled them to take the second set at 25-20.
However, the last and final set of the game was won by the Tigers at 30-28.
 After the Oakville team had won the match, their coach Morgan Lucas appreciated the Tigers in the following words, “We finally made it over the hump. For three years in a row, we rode that bus home after the semifinals defeated. This year I told them to
leave it on the court. Those boys deserve it.”
