Oasis Cannes keen to maintain podium record in Piper-Heidsieck Nursery
Since June 2012, the Sir Mark Prescott Bt trained bay colt, Oasis Cannes, has been on the podium, and he will try his utmost to keep this record intact by winning the Piper-Heidsieck Nursery here at Newmarket racecourse on Friday, August 10.
The son of Oasis Dream out of Miss Provence has already experienced the good to firm track at the same venue; thus, he will be able to run confidently over 7 furlongs.
Leading the line-up of six runners is not a big deal for the young colt as he has proved his skills well against a number of great horses. In his last outing at Goodwood, the two-year-old novice sprinter marvellously finished as the runner-up while competing against a dozen of rivals. He was the 7-2 favourite for that race.
In the month of July, the J. L. C. Pearce owned and bred runner bagged two consecutive runner-up positions at Newmarket racecourse. Earlier during the same month, he elegantly broke his maiden by winning the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden Stakes over 7 furlongs. That contest took place at Wolverhampton on July 2.
With £11,030 of career earnings, Oasis Cannes is lusting for today’s prize money worth £3,881.
Overall, his way towards the finish line will be quite clear as none of his competitors is likely to impede him. However, Makafeh may try to challenge the Oasis Cannes’ position from behind.
The Luca Cumani trained bay colt started his two-race career on June 23, 2012, finishing 5th in the Bet365 Maiden Stakes at Newmarket. The Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum owned rookie runner improved a lot and registered a grand victory in the very next start which was Irish Stallion Farms E B F / 4Head Maiden Stakes, held at Yarmouth on July 17.
Makafeh is still cherishing the sweet memories of that victory, and this is a big morale booster for him. But despite this, he cannot be able to stand for success in today’s marathon. The runner-up spot may go to him.
So an exciting contest is just around the corner. All the eyes are fixed on Oasis Cannes.
