Obafemi Martins was forced out of Newcastle United because of relegation

http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Obafemi-Martins-c28273, who is set to face his former club Newcastle United on Tuesday, has claimed that the Toons forced him to leave the club after they were relegated in 2009.
The 26-year-old, who has recently joined Birmingham City on loan from Russian outfit Rubin Kazan, has expressed his disappointment over Newcastle’s decision of axing him. However, Martins, who is set for his second Birmingham start, has insisted that it
was hard for him to forget the time which he spent at St. James Park.
Martins commented, "I have good memories of Newcastle - the only bad memory was when we got relegated. It was normal when I left because they couldn't afford the money. That's why they asked me to go. I didn't say anything. The club asked me to go and called
me when Wolfsburg came in. Andy Carroll went and he deserved to go because he has been playing well scoring goals.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan striker is hoping for a good reception from Newcastle United supporters and has claimed he would be excited to play against his former team.
The Nigerian has also admitted that he is still in disbelief that Newcastle United got relegated despite having number of superstars in the squad which include the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355, Alan Shearer, Steven Taylor and Mark Viduka. The 26-year-old also acknowledged
that getting relegated with Newcastle United was the lowest time in his career.
The former Wolfsburg striker also hailed the performances of Joey Barton and claimed that the English midfielder is enjoying great form. He said, "I have been watching his game and he has been doing quite well. He doesn't have a problem with anybody. He
seems happy, when he is happy he is fine. Of course he is a great player and I hope http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 are going to call him."
Birmingham is currently placed 14th in the league and they will face 11th placed Newcastle United tonight. A win for the Blues would take them into the top half of the table in the Premier League.
