Obama Vs. McCain Election

Okay, as of now, Im an army girlfriend. By summer of '09, I will most likely be an army wife. I am able to vote this year and am concentrating my vote on who will be best for the military and their family.

Ive read up on both and both seem to have good plans for the military. I was dead set on McCain but then I read up on some stuff about Obama and not really sure. Obama wants to end this war, not right this second, but soon. And he seems to have a bit of a strategy. Of course I know we need the Iraqi gov't to be stable.

McCain has military background and understands the needs of a soldier and their family.

Any advice or points u would like to throw out there?

Remember, I'm looking at what they can offer to the military and their family

  1. Hey Sweetie, you might want to look in the crystal ball and see what's next on the war agenda. It's called Iran. It looks to me that they are not going to back down and neither are we so it looks like a game of chicken. Now, do you want someone in office that would have pulled out our troops before the surge and lost the war but gained popularity? (Obama) Or do you want someone that has military service, the foreign policy experience and the patriotism to do what's right when everything in the world say not to? (McCain)  Simple answer to me!

  2. Since you did your research on Senator Obama before setting your mind, you might want to do some more research. That is a web search on his childhood mentor in Hawaii. The man he calls "Frank" many times in his book "Dreams of My Father". The mentor's full name is Frank Marshall Davis. "Google" that name. Then read what comes up.

Also keep in mind that you won't be voting for President. You will be voting for electors pledged to one candidate or another. The election of the President will take place the month following when the members of the Electoral College cast their ballots for President and Vice President in compliance with the Twelfth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Also keep in mind that only 24 States have "faithful elector" laws to compel the electors who hold certificates of ascertainment from their Governor to vote the way the people in that State voted the month before, under penalty of fine or imprisonment.

Next, you should take some time to read Article Two of the U.S. Constitution. It lists what the duties of the President are. You also need to keep in mind that it is the Congress who has the "power of the purse", not the President. In short, we face the election of a Chief Executive. Not a Federal Wizard King.

  3. Obama may speak well, and he is young, and attractive, and very charismatic, but don't fool yourself.  He is a hypocrite and a liar -- willing to say anything to anybody just to get elected.  The Democratic party has no morals whatsoever, and they will s***w us all should they achieve complete control over the Government.

The Democratic Party is anti-Military.  They always have been and they always will be.  If you want to elect someone who will support the military and fight for the Soldiers/Sailors/Airmen/Marines, you absolutely positively MUST vote for McCain.

  4. Here's one tidbit: McCain voted against a GI Bill that would expand on the previous GI Bill, giving four academic years of educational benefits up to the cost of the most expensive in-state undergraduate public tuition in the veteran's state of residence. The bill was proposed by Senator Jim Webb, a possible candidate for Obama's VP. The bill was eventually passed, but not with McCain's vote.

  5. I too am an Army wife and our family has seen too much combat in the last 5 years.

I'll say it again, John Kerry had purple hearts and the Republicans wore purple heart bandaids as an insult to him. All of a sudden a military history is so important with McCain. Even McCains battle budy won't vote for him. http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,...

Can I offer you this advice? FOX News is funded by the Republican party. Get your news from NPR or a non-biased media source. It's hard because FOX is played on all military tvs because we have a Rep. Administration, but try to educate yourself. You need to make a decision for yourself because you sacrifice more for this war than the average American.

Look, McCain wants us in Iraq for 100 years, in May he voted against the GI Bill and he doesn't know the difference between a Sunni or Shiite.  He's had all 5 types of skin cancer and is close to 80. He's not exactly ready for battle now, huh?

And he wants to cut funding to military housing to pay for corporate tax cuts.

10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE a vote for $1 Billion for National Guard and Reserve Equipment in Iraq dueto:shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, & tactical vests.

9/2007: McCain voted AGAINST bill to minimize periods of time between deployment of units sent to Iraq.

  6. How about more time at home with the family Don't let McCain's military background fool you or he would do more to change things in Cuba he did most of his time as a pow heres how either one can get my vote is to come up with a plan to get the USA none depend on Foreign oil believe me if the middle east did not have oil under it we would not be at war so the plan to get us out of Iraq with in 16 months and get on with what we went to fight in the middle east Afghanistan gets my vote

  7. I can see McCain lightening up the tours and giving the Military more benefits, he knows what needs to be done seeing that he saw all of the problems first hand.

  8. McCain was a proponent of the surge strategy before it was popular even within the Republican party.  He saw what he thought needed to be done, and pushed for it.  He turned out to be right.

Besides McCain's military background, his family has a tradition of military service.  Two of his children, I believe, are currently serving.

Obama's strategy has always been to set a fixed timetable for withdrawal of American forces from Iraq, regardless of the situation on the ground.  The surge, from his standpoint was a failure.  I don't know if he has even yet acknowledged the role the strategy played in enabling the Anbar Awakening to succeed.  If he had his way, we'd have been out of Iraq already... and I suspect we'd have to go back in, at an even higher cost in lives, in fifteen or twenty years.

Edit... Fight Club, as I recall, McCain opposed the bill because he was pushing for a different bill which he believed was better.

  9. Simple...think as if you were a terrorist in the world or any country that wants to do us harm, who would you honestly vote for if you could, who would you want to win...

then YOU back here vote for the opposite guy.
