He was abducted from Northern Kenya when Arab slavers from Sudan raided his village for women and boys.  He was destined for sale to planters in Hawaii, but was rescued by Hawaiian coastguards in American waters, in 1961..  As a result this and his age (under 5)  he qualified for full US citizenship.
