  1. he isn't going to do it and i think that some of the race fans are going to be fine with it because even if you are republican we all know something needs to change

  2. He cannot get any love from his own "supporters" Jackson for one...how would he get anything from NASCAR fans.

  3. I doubt it would go over well with all the southern conservatives that watch NASCAR.  But you can't fault the guy for having an original idea to reach out to potential voters.

  4. Obama and NASCAR

    Osama and NASCAR

    Something just doesn't  "click"

  5. thats not the smartest thing he couldave done

  6. Oh please nooooooooooooo!  Nascar has it's own politicians and doesn't need one no one knows anything about in the mix.....

Maybe we as Nascar fans should write in our own candidate.

Is Dale Jarrett old enough? I think so.

  7. I heard he backed out, but seeing as a lot of nascar fans are white and Republicans, I would not want to drive that car.

  8. This is the first I heard of it.   If he did and it did happen I think NASCAR fans would see right through it as a way to get votes.

  9. That was rumored, but Obama's team has already denied that was going to happen.

"Obama Campaign to sponsor BAM at Pocono? UPDATE 2: BAM statement SI.com has learned that for the first time in history, a major presidential candidate may sponsor a race car in NASCAR's premier series. According to sources, Barack Obama's campaign is in talks to become the primary sponsor of BAM Racing's #49 Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3. Details of the agreement are expected to be worked out over the coming days. A BAM spokesperson has revealed the team will hold a press conference July 23 in Miami to reveal the partnership, currently a proposed one-race deal with an option to continue.(Sports Illustrated)(7-11-2008)

UPDATE: NASCAR's BAM Racing team has presented Barack Obama's presidential campaign with a potential sponsorship deal in the Sprint Cup series later this year, but it doesn't look like an Obama car will be burning rubber on the track anytime soon. BAM team spokesman Rhett Vandiver told The Associated Press on Friday that the team made a sponsorship proposal to the Democratic presidential hopeful's campaign, and has made similar proposals to the campaign of Republican John McCain and at least one third-party candidate. Late Friday, the Obama campaign said there would be no sponsorship.(Associated Press)(7-12-2008)

UPDATE 2: BAM Racing team owner Beth Ann Morgenthau issued the following statement to clear up any confusion from the past few days. "An independent agent, knowing BAM Racing was seeking corporate sponsorship to return to the track, requested permission to connect BAM Racing with all three presidential campaigns. BAM agreed to explore the options. The same independent agent referred to as, 'a BAM spokesperson' in the recent Sports Illustrated article, 'revealed' what was only tentative, exploratory talks. BAM Racing has decided to heed the advice of the overwhelming response by fans to keep politics out of racing and continue to focus on several other exciting sponsorships soon to be announced."(BAM Racing PR)(7-13-2008)"

  10. Obama sucks.

  11. it would go bad nascar has a bunch of rednecks that are mostly republicans the car might get some boos

  12. I don,t care....It,s funny nascar doesn,t either!!!!!Hail to the person the the most dough!!!!It,s probably cheaper than a spot for the super bowl!!!

  13. no, the story was that BAM approached the obama camp to see if they would be interested in sponsoring them for a race, and that the obama camp said no. BAM also supposedly approached mccain and an undisclosed third party candidate.

"Regardless, BAM's choice of drivers and car brands might turn out to be a little too sticky politically for the Obama camp. The car, a Toyota -- the only foreign automaker racing in NASCAR -- would be driven by veteran Ken Schrader."

schrader and his wife have contributed quite a bit to republican campaigns in the past - not the best choice for an obama "driver."

    ;-)

here's the article about it: http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headline...
