I know I can respect his wishes! The question is...Will you?!

MONROE, Michigan (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

Sen. Barack Obama campaigns in Monroe, Michigan, on Monday.

"Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

Obama said reporters should "back off these kinds of stories" and noted that he was born to an 18-year-old mother.

"How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off-limits."

Bristol Palin, a senior in high school, is about five months pregnant, according to an aide to Sen. John McCain who asked not to be named.

The aide said the Palins and the McCain campaign decided to reveal the information now because of rampant Internet rumors that Sarah Palin's 4-month-old baby, who has Down syndrome, was actually Bristol's.

Obama became annoyed when asked about a Reuters news service report that quoted an unnamed senior McCain aide saying that Obama's name appears in liberal blogs speculating about Trig's parentage "in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change.' " Watch analysts weigh in on the Palins' announcement »

"I am offended by that statement," the Illinois senator retorted, not letting the reporter finish his question. "There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us.

"We don't go after people's families; we don't get them involved in the politics. It's not appropriate, and it's not relevant," he added. "Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I ever thought that there was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they'd be fired."

  1. Yes I can and I have already.

It anger me when someone posts things about the children, no matter which side does it. I think the children have no say in this and that they should be left alone.

The thing that astounds me, is the ignorance of those that posts things about this and try to add fuel to the fire. I have my problems with McCain's pick but it does not involve her family.

And yes, I am an Obama supporter.

  2. These trolls posting aren't sophisticated enough to be on a 'side'. They are our sides version of your 'ditto heads'.

    I agree with Obama 100%!

I hope you'll give him the same respect when people type BS about his wife.

  3. Yes and despite the inaccurate assumptions from some, I haven't involved myself in that topic.

  4. Obama also said that children are a curse from God, Who else thinks he should abort, I mean kill his little out of control brats?

  5. Speaking very truly and I am not a Obama  supporter

  6. Just endorses our thoughts (husband and I) that Senator Obama is a gentleman...through and through.

Edit:  If that (censored expletive) of a spell chickie does not get his name properly in that 'so-called' dictionary...I think I shall...well, I will!

  7. I respect Obama greatly. But I'm afraid that he doesn't dictate my life.

Republicans have been spewing hate on this website for about a year now and I'm going to get what little revenge I can. I don't go out in the REAL world and talk about these frivolous matters, but online I can say all the c**p about her daughter I want.

I am going to take advantage of this situation the best I can.

  8. I haven't read your question or others. I just want to give a very big heart felt Thank you Sen. Obama for telling your party and others who may be giving grief to Gov. Palin about her 17 year old pregnant daughter, to back off. Sighting your own mothers age at the time of your birth. The only thing in a political race that should be considered is politics. Neither party has a monopoly on moral living. I thank you again Sen. Obama and I would not be a good Republican if I didn't say Go! John Go!

  9. I think he's sincere when he says this, because his wife has been so heavily criticized.

Although, you and I both know if he had a teenaged daughter that came up pregnant these republicans would be talking all day, all night.

  10. Well, I am not a Obama supporter, however, my take on this is I commend Barack Obama for making his thoughts known about the scandal that his supporters have brought up to abruptly and disgustingly discuss amongst themselves!!!  If Sarah Palin was still the Governor of Alaska, in her town, do you think she will be facing such ugliness in her life, and her daugher's life right now?  I hope not, I think not.  Which means that because she is now the running mate of John McCain, and future Vice President of the United States of America, a position that their candidate Hillary should have had, if Barack hadn't taken it away from her, is the main reason why she is being attacked in such a vicious way....!!!!

If you can visualize a hound of wolves, attacking a fawn, for being in their territory, then you can see why Britol Palin is being attacked.  It is a gutless, ruthless, unremorseful act on the democrats part, for taking it all of their frustrations on Sarah and Bristol Palin.  And, the fact remains, there is nothing that we can do, but sit back and stay away from the nasty questions and answers that are being said right now, as I write this.  Because if I choose to jump in that ring of hungry hound of wolves, to help them, they will chew me up and spit me out!  The best thing to do is ignore them!  They will all go away, or maybe they will eat one another up and that will be the end of them!!!  This and what is happening at the Republican convention, all the rioting and protesting outside is a total disgust of human nature!  It is amazing to me how people can flip out when they resist the facts and truth about what is good about our nation and/or for our nation.  It's appalling to see people in violence opposing what is good for our country!  The animal instincts kicks in, and they all turn into some kind of werewolf!

I would not be an honest Republican if I didn't say that no matter how this will all pan out in the end, I know that John McCain and Sarah Palin will be our next President and Vice President.  We can count on them to be as diplomatic about this as I will be!  God bless America!

    Peace...I'm out of here!!!

  11. What's ironic about your question is that Palin is willing to broadcast to the world that her oldest daughter is unwed and pregnant, as a political tool to defuse suspicions that she didn't really get pregnant at age 44 and her daughter didn't really have to stay out of school for 5 months because of mono.

Given that Palin's own staff didn't know she was pregnant well into her third trimester, until they were told, the pregnancy thing did seem a bit unbelievable.

Throwing her daughter under the bus on national TV wasn't the way to respond though.

Btw, since when is the Right so uppity about commenting on candidates' families?  Doesn't anyone remember this one from McCain:

'Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father.'

Furthermore, speculating on raped daughters wasn't too low for the '06 Alaskan gubernatorial debate.  When asked if she'd support her daughter's getting an abortion upon being raped, Palin said 'no'. http://dwb.adn.com/news/politics/electio...

Maybe it's Alaska's cold weather, but I can't help thinking that behind the big smile, beauty pageant contestants in general are ice on the inside.

  12. You have to decide for yourself whether this is an important issue, but I think Senator Obama is a principled man in an arena of life where there are few of them, and he has taken the high road.  I would recommend that you do likewise before you judge him...
