Question:

Obamas energy plan?????

I am all for alternative energy,

but if it's going to take more than 5 to 10 years to develop, what are we going to do NOW.

I would love to drive on fresh air & water but we don't have the technology to do that NOW.

If we drilled for oil 15 or so years ago, when It was first proposed, we would have had the infrastructure in place NOW.

So, what is Obamas energy plan for NOW............ how is it going to help me at the pump??????????????

PS. My tires are properly inflated & my car is only 2 years old.

  1. You better hope it's 5 to 10 years cause that way, it will offer work opportunities for this new industry.

Something China cannot steal away from Americans because of the expertise required.

Drilling for Oil is not the long term solution.

Obama is offering you a long term solution and help.

Take it and grab it and run with it.

The reasons as to what's happening now is the fault of the Republicans.

You vote for the GOP and you will get your taxes raised and your energy bills will come crushing over you.

    Enough lies from the GOP.

  2. For everyone except the elite and the stupid, drilling now is the only solution. McCain said it best. Let's drill now, so we can survive the crisis, and keep researching and developing new forms of energy.

Obama doesn't see it that way, because he hasn't had to buy a tank of gas in years, so our problems are our own. He has no solution to right here, right now.

    Only McCain/Palin makes sense.

  3. A President can't do everything.

He or she has to help the student, the mother, the teacher, the fireman, the janitor, the immigrant, the truck driver, the farmer, the waitress, the single parent, the christian, the muslim, the jew, the sick, the poor, the middle-class, plus thousands of other types of people.

You want help at the pump? Do you know how much Europe pays for gas compared to Americans? What makes you think you deserve more help than our troops, or the sick, or students?

Get in line buddy, everybody needs help. Why don't you try something called a little bit of self-sacrifice for your country and not "help me," I need a hand out.

Isn't that what being republican is all about? Pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps?

  4. If they would have drilled when this was brought up to Bill, or when Bush proposed it 7 years ago, we would be a different country now.  We have to start somewhere.  Anwar also has a lot of natural gas.  We can get oil out of the gulf in 1 1/2 years by drilling in existing pipelines.  We have been openly fighting about it for a year.  We could be getting oil in 6 months.  Drill here Drill now !!!!

"like we don't already know we have to look for alternative energy"Palin

  5. And when America was at one of her lowest points, what was she gonna do NOW?

She elected FDR  - a liberal Democrat - and the rest is history. If not for a liberal Democrat, Republicans wouldn't have a superpower's influence to abuse. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it :P

    We CAN do this!

    OBAMA '08!!

  6. Oil Prices are forward looking.  All of our markets work that way.

So, here is how this will play out.  If elected, Obama will push a MASSIVE investment in alternative energy.  Investing $100s of billions of dollars in energy (NOT OIL) will indicate to the markets that the supply of energy is about to be increased dramatically.

This type of news and action will push oil futures down.  Oil futures dropping will also push down the cost of gasoline, tires, roads, and everything oil is used to make.   This will give us some breathing room from the inflation on groceries, clothing, and other consumer goods shipped to stores.

Obama's plan will boost our economy.

McCain's plan involves drilling for oil in Alaska.  Its a great idea, but it will take just as long to complete and there is no guarantee that we will find enough oil to cover our trade deficit.

  7. Obama's energy plan will result in the collapse of the American Economic system.  We need to expand all available domestic energy sources to the point that we can eliminate all "unfriendly foreign energy sources".  This means keeping Canada as a source.

Expand Oil drilling offshore and in Alaska.

    Build more Nuclear Plants.

    Build more Wind Farms.

Encourage (through tax rebates) research into alternative fuels etc.

Obama doesn't get it.  The US is an energy intensuve economic engine that will consume tremendous amounts fuel.  We are the largest economy in the history of mankind, 30 % of the world's GNP and we consume 25% of the worlds energy, remarkable efficiency.

  8. under Mccains plan will our once beautiful coasts look like oil refineries?  d**n how sad!  What if California has a major quake?  It happens.  Remember 1989?  If the coast had a lot of oil refineries like Mccain wants to install there would have been oil all over the place.  Maybe there would have been fires too.  What about Los Angeles?  I have to stop this is too d**n depressing  Please America do not put Mccain in the White House We all will regret it

  9. Obama's energy plan for now is exactly the same as McCain's. Keep purchasing foreign oil and putting the US in political hock to the Saudis.

No US president can possibly shift the US energy plan overnight. Changing the energy plan for a country the size of the US will take many years some of those years will be taken up drafting a practical solution, others will be taken up putting the plan through Congress several times (No bill of such magnitude will ever get of the ground immediately), and the rest will be taken up by actually building the infrastructure required.

To be perfectly blunt, the only way that an alternative energy plan could be implemented in less than 10 years would be if America were to become a draconian dictatorship where the rule of law and checks and balances didn't exist. Then Washington could simply build nuclear power plants all over the place.

Where McCain and Obama differ is that McCain's solution to America's energy needs and its reliance on foreign oil is to sink more wells on territory controlled by the US and to take control of foreign oil resources. While Obama's solution is to replace foreign oil with alternative energy sources.

Personally, I vote for Obama on this. His solution may take longer to put in place, but when the oil does become to expensive a commodity to be practical America will be better placed to survive.

McCain's solution is from today to the next  century, Obama's is from 10 years time to the end of the Earth.

  10. Some of Obamas Plan:

    • Prioritize the Construction of the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline.

    • Create a New $7,000 Tax Credit for Purchasing Advanced Vehicles.

    • Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families.

    • Crack Down on Excessive Energy Speculation.

    • Swap Oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to Cut Prices.

    • Provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump

    • Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.

    • Ensure 10 percent of Our Electricity Comes from Renewable Sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025.

    • Deploy the Cheapest, Cleanest, Fastest Energy Source – Energy Efficiency.

    • Weatherize One Million Homes Annually.

    • Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology.

Obama is not against drilling, and in fact has updated his plan to include more drilling but  as Obama points out ,McCain frequently seems to be promising to drill through the floorboards of the stage where he’s speaking. Through constant repetition, he’s trying to fool the public into believing their gas prices will come down in the foreseeable future if more coastal areas are opened to drilling. And nobody really believes that, including John McCain.

If we would have invested in Alternative energy 15 years ago we would not have had this problem either. Oil companies readily admit, there is not much oil left in Alaska when you look at the demand. Oil Companies are already sitting on tons of oil land leases that they refuse to drill on because they don't see it as being profitable (too little oil and too much work). If America opened up the shores for more drilling, I imagine, we would subsidize a lot of the Oil Companies work, (use taxpayers dollars) and there we still do not have any guarentee that these companies would sell it back to the US (let alone at any discount).  We need to hold these companies accountable, American oil should go to Americans.

  11. If we have faith in the Obama we will be saved. We dont need details or a plan. If we run short of oil he can just meet with leaders and they will provide, for he is the Obama.
