Question:

Obese People and Injuries.?

On the job where I work, two morbidly obese one fell, and the other tipped over something which caused them to fall, and they both fell and couldn't get up because of their weight (On 2 separate occasions though 2 different people)

Now, employees of thinner or even a few extra pounds this has never happened to, at least where I work at.

I've been there 30 years so I really know the ins and outs of it. The 2 obese people have not returned because they have so much more health troubles.

So your thoughts on why we should hire obese people?

  1. I don't know if it's a matter of hiring obese people as opposed to thinner people. Whoever does the job best should be hired.

However, I see that weight could be a problem in some jobs, specifically where other people's lives can be at risk. For example, an older, obese bus driver is more prone to a heart attack than a thinner person, and that could have fatal consequences.

  2. Our society has become so preoccupied with what is politically correct, safety has been put on the back burner -- and it will come to the front soon when all the lawsuits start happening.

I don't believe in equal rights, affirmative action and I don't believe in being politically correct with the workforce -- I believe the right person should be hired for the job.... period.  All this other stuff is hampering our work force, our production, our justice system ... it's gotten so out of hand, how can we ever get it back in place?!

  3. cause they need to work too....

  4. Because these morbidly obese people are people above anything else and deserve the same chances as thin people. Not all obese people are that way by choice. Sometimes, there are illnesses that cause them to be such. Yes, it's dangerous but it's also not our place to tell them how to live.

Watch what happens if an obese person is turned away because of their weight. The person will have grounds for a lawsuit based on discrimination, which is ILLEGAL in any work place. That reason alone is ENOUGH reason why we SHOULD hire obese people the same manner we hire thin people.

  5. If they couldn't get up because of their weight, they shouldn't have been performing physical labor in the first place.   I'm big, and if I trip and fall, I can get up off the ground.  Sometimes we hire obese people because the people who are "in shape" are too "special" to do the job and/or don't have the work ethic to do the job.  By the way, there are quite a few thin people who have injuries on the job too.  You just happen to notice larger people tripping more often than your other coworkers.  If people who were in shape never received injuries on the job, you wouldn't hear about the football players with the concussions or blown-out knees.
