Obese kids are banned from donkey rides, new animal cruelty rules mean there will be an eight stone weight limit for riding donkeys on the beach !

What do you think ? Is it cruel for " heavier" kids to ride a donkey ?

I have my views, just wondering what yours are ?

  1. i have no idea how big "8 stone" is.........

  2. Perfect solution - let the normal kids ride the fat kids.

    1) normal kids get a ride

    2) fat kids still get to take part, and may lose some weight

    3) donkeys can be shipped off to a nice field somewhere

    What could go wrong?

  3. well it is unfair all round really.

yes if a vet thinks anything over 8 stone is too much for a donkey and would be classed as cruel, then yes this has to be the law think of the animal,

then on the other hand the poor kid with the problem that is over 8 stone will have to miss out.

so can not be nice for them knowing that because they are bigger then others the same age as them they may not ride a donkey

  4. Fair enough... donkey's are actually capable of carrying much heavier weights than 8 stone, but since they are trudging up and down the beach all day I think the weight limit is a very good idea.  I weighed 8 stone up until I was 18 years old, and I'm muscular 5ft 7, so I don't think the weight limit would affect slightly fat kids, only the really fat ones.  So all this is good for the donkeys,

As for the kids, it is such a shame to let them get that fat, but at the same time, it is the parents responsibility and not really the kids responsibility when they are that young.  It is a real shame that any child would have to be told they cannot have a donkey ride because they are too fat, it is humiliating and upsetting for them.  I'm sure they could find a way round this, I mean there can't be that many fat kids wanting to ride donkeys, so why not let them ride a donkey that isn't going to be doing that much work on that day?

As I said, in other countries donkeys are used on a daily basis to carry and pull much heavier weights than that, so it wouldn't harm them to do it occasionally.

We need to stop discriminating against fat people... encouraging a healthy lifestyle is fine, but ostracising little kids because their parents over feed them just isn't fair.

  5. Quite right too. Why should the poor animals have to suffer cos of greedy little sh*ts who eat far more than there fair share?

And there's children in the world who are starving...

  6. If that is not incentive to have the fatty drop some pounds, I don't know what is.

  7. I think it's cruel for "heavier" kids as you call them to be fed so much.

  8. SAVE THE DONKEYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Basically, yes! I mean, I'd love to ride on the donkeys at Weston, but as a 15 stone adult I know I just can't - I'm not being discriminated against, it is just not appropriate to put the poor donkey under that strain!

  10. Lol. Being fat automatically makes you cruel to animals.

  11. To be hoest if your kid was a porker why put a donkey through it?

Politely tell the kid no, we will do something else.

Parents who cause trouble insisting their little "chantelle" gets on a donkey, need a reality check.

    Or a slap.

  12. Yes it is cruel.

I know it is a sort of tradition but I do not agree with the practice of donkey-rides at all. I pity donkeys having to trudge up and down a beach all day in hot weather... for the sake of the owners making a few pounds...never mind having to carry overweight children.

The parents should walk their children along the beach and keep them active. Letting the children sit on their bums all day eating the wrong food, and eating too much of it,  then bringing them to the beach to sit on their bums again, this time on the back of a poor little donkey, is one sure way of growing fat children. They will not thank their parents for it when they are older and are finding it hard to get back to being a healthy weight. Children need to be guided.

The new rules should be rigorously imposed. That includes making sure that the owners of the donkeys obey the rules too with no hunkersliding to make a little extra money. If they are caught disobeying the rules the donkeys should be taken away from them.

There are many people around who will be keeping an eye on things and will no doubt report any wrong-doing.

Someone has to look out for the animals.

  13. 8 stones?are you sure?i am 29 and i am 8 stones so surely a kid can't be, not that many anyway.I remember been around 37 kg at 10, so i presume that's an average.

I think obesity is another politically correct issue where truth is caramalised or people will start winging they are pick on.

They don't relise they are an issue when it comes to transports of any sort and I give a thumb up to those that acknoledged the strain on poor little donkeys.

  14. yes i do. There animals too and if the extra weight hurts them then so be it. Some kids are over weight for medical reason but the animals welfare should always be priority

  15. It's cruel to the little fat-***.  Let him walk and burn off some of that blubber.

  16. Yep, I think it is, in fact I think the whole concept of Donkey rides is cruel.

Well maybe not cruel but certainly something about it does not sit right with me.

But then I kind of like Donkeys .

  17. ye if they are too heavy they should be banned but ive an idea all those turned down could give little uns piggy back rides trhen everyones happy

  18. Seeing how donkeys are treated in other countries,I think that donkey rides should be banned, here.

  19. well i think its actually quite funny, but on a more serious note if this gives the poor donkeys a bit of a break then perhaps it should be considered.

  20. They shouldn't be riding a donkey down the beach, they should be jogging.  The parents will blame someone else but really it's all their fault the kid can't ride the donkey.

  21. Its cruel to make the donkeys bear excessive weight. And its cruel for the kids to be obese.

Someone said they will never be able to enforce the weight limit, but they(whoever' they 'are) will, because the owners of the donkeys will just say to the over weight kids that they can't ride on the donkey.

  22. of course it is cruel, my daughter is 9 and no way would i let her ride a donkey, a horse is more appropriate for her now even though she is no where near 8 stone, i think 8 stone is too heavy i would have thought 5 was more appropriate.

  23. its the same as not letting short people on the rides at an amusement park.  the parents of fat kids should be fed to the donkey.

  24. People over a ceratin weight are also prohibited from riding the donkeys at Grand Canyon.  My husband included, we did not ride them when we went there.  He was not all offended or pled discrimiation.  Come on, donkeys can only hold so much and it is not practical or fair to the donkey to make them hold more.  They could get hurt and even hurt the rider when they collapse and fall.  So I agree that whatever the weight deemed too much should not be forced on a donkey.

  25. BAN the donkey rides.....POOR animals!!!!!

  26. No-one will be able to enforce this, so it's rather a pointless ban....

  27. Poor donkey's its a horrible way to live anyway, stuck on a beach in the sun all day with kids probably kicking you to go faster - give them a break at least where the big kids are concerned.

  28. I'm surprised they have to be banned, I would have thought common sense would have told the parent that a heavy person (whether child or adult) can cause a donkey discomfort.  So the parent would say no the the child anyway.

  29. I think its cruel to use donkeys as entertainment.  They are animals and have feelings.

If a kid is too fat and by putting it on a donkey will cause strain and pressure to the donkey, then there should be a ban.  Kids are fat for one reason only and thats because there fed too much.

People and kids should walk.  Stop using poor donkeys to carry you.

  30. Here in the US I have been out riding horses and once

on a trip I asked a girl where her boyfriend was and

she said he did not make the weight requirement ,

    he was too heavy.

I think that is fair as the poor animals will be hurt

    by excessive weight.

Airlines charge peoples for extra weight.

Poor donkeys I hope they don't have to lug around

obese kids. And yes obese kids should be OUTSIDE

walking the beach or swimming to get healthy.

Yes it is cruel to the little donkey.

I think donkeys are cute .

  31. I think the poor donkeys have a right not to be exploited by disgustingly obese little *** todds that have no restraining ability for themselves and have no care for the poor little beast they're riding on. it's a terrible thing to do.
