Oblique strain puts Cliff Lee on Disabled List as he throws ten scoreless innings - MLB Update
Ten innings scoreless breeze is an ideal performance a team can expect from their starter. Though Philadelphia Phillies still manage to lose, Cliff Lee made it clear on the opponents as to the kind of threat he can be in the season.
His spectacular show however is now under an influence of a curse as he got his muscle twisted in the process of throwing. Not available for the Phillies, he now lurks on DL for an indefinite time.
He looked so perfect in the game that every throw was following another gem, manoeuvred in a way that batters will give up even before they will make any attempt to connect.
As general manager hinted that he may have lost in the quest of adding variety to every throw and in the process may have disregarded the dislocation certain types of pitches will cause to the body.
"I don't know what pitch it was, but he must have made a pitch that bothered him a little bit," Ruben Amaro Jr. said.
GM is extremely concerned over his prospects in the season and believes that the kind of injury it is, nothing can be said with certainty about his comeback date.
Lee now leaves Phillies’ rotation a little weakened. The fact Phillies main strength is their rotation while the offence is fairly ordinary, it seems things are going worse for them at the moment.
"We're being very cautious with this," Ruben Amaro Jr. said. `'There's no reason for him to kind of completely blow it out because it's an injury that if he hurts himself and really pulls it, we could lose him for a long time. We'll shut him down, get him
right and hopefully he'll miss only a couple of starts and go from there."
For his replacement, Joe Savery has been called up from the Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Although Phillies possess quality starters like Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels and Vance Worley, his absence will be felt in the crucial games down the line.
A starter who can immensely lighten the burden on bullpen plays a vital role there. Therefore, Phillies can brace for the tough task ahead of managing their rotation if he does not return soon.
