I'm trying to taper off on Remeron which I've been taking for two years. I was only taking 15 mg and really wanted fight my depression without any drugs. It's been a few weeks since I've been taking half of my regular dose and lately I'm having obsessive thoughts and fantasies about a celebrity like I'm a teenager. I'm 40 years old! This is not normal, right? If this is a parf of my depression, I'm going to find a way to fight off.

Let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks.

  1. Which celeberty? =]]

cuz if its nick jonas i dont blame you jaja.

  2. Go to your therapist, these are not questions for people who do not have a degree or a license to practice medicine.

  3. I was diagnosed in 1997 with bipolar disorder. Up until then, my life was absolute misery. After being diagnosed, medicated and treated for years, I was encouraged to go on with my life as usual.

However, over those years I found myself doing exactly the same thing as you (and I'm now in my early 40's too). It's far worse now than when I was younger too. I have obsessive thoughts and fantasies that would make excellent scripts for movies! At first, I really thought what was happening was crazy! I saw my psychiatrist and mental health worker several times regarding this issue. Neither of them believe there is anything wrong with the behaviour. The reason they gave me was kind of weird, but sounded logical. They told me that some people who suffer from mental illness use this sort of behaviour to help them "cope" with day-to-day living and allow us to escape our pain without resorting to alcohol or drugs or other forms of "pain relief". I have to admit, it sounded a bit out there, but it really seems harmless to me now with this new information. Thoughts are thoughts, as long as the particular thoughts don't turn into actions or hurt anyone else, I really don't see anything wrong with it. Remember, this is only my own opinion. I'm sure there are many others who have their own to share. All the best to you.
