Does anyone know what proof we will need to have as parents when you are trying to obtain a passport for your child born in central america? the main question i have is what to show them to prove that you have lived in the states as a parent for 5 years. Not sure exactly what to bring to be prepared?

  1. Been to your local post office yet? They've got all the forms and will help you.  If it's about proving your residence here,  I think five years of W-2's would be a place to begin, as well as 1040's. A bit harder to find, but still a maybe- phone bills, utility bills, car registrations with your name on 'em from five years ago.

  2. Different people present different things, depending on what they have. Your passport and/or older passports may help show your US residency. Tax forms, certainly. School records can also be used.

  3. you can obtain a passport for your child if only if either of the parrents are us citizens .ie if you or your hunband are american nationals then yes if not no

  4. Best things are:

School reports to state you were a full time student in a US school.

    Old US passports with stamps.

Tax returns: MUST HAVE the relevant W-2s attached or they are no good.

    Letters from old employers/teachers/professional people.

Failing this, contact the DHS and they can provide you with a list of every time you travelled in and out of the US on a US passport (however, this takes a while for them to sort).

  5. Just living in the US for 5 years? You need your US Passport or Certificate of Naturalization if you are not natural born US Citizen. Your child's birth certificate from that country where he/she was born and need English translation of that certificate if its not in English.
