Ocean Air Travels seizes top honours at UAE Volleyball Tournament – Volleyball news
The men’s volleyball team of Ocean Air Travels, which is a Dubai based company that provides travel solutions internationally, clinched success in the final match of 17th Kerala Social Centre (KSC) UAE Exchange Centre Jimmy George Memorial Volleyball Tournament.
The crucial final game was played on Saturday and featured a heated competition between Ocean Travels and Lifeline Hospital. Packed-up Al Jazira indoor stadium in Abu Dhabi provided the backdrop for the match. The Ocean Travels squad posted 3-1 (25-21, 25-17,
23-25, 25-23) victory over Lifeline Hospital and claimed the top honour of the tournament.
The UAE Exchange Centre sponsored the tournament and facilitated the participating teams. The Chief Operating Officer of the company, Sudhir Kumar Shetty, distributed trophies to the successful team at the post-match award ceremony. The winners of the George
Memorial Volleyball Tournament settled for prize money of Dhs 15,000, while the runner-up team received Dhs 10,000.
The opening set of the match featured a balanced action from both sides. The spectators saw an exchange of long rallies and tricky bump passes over the net. The Ocean Air Travels team was mostly composed of Iranian players, who did an impressive job. The
duo of Arash Sadeghiani and Vali Nourmohammadi came strong on the rival side and soared up the score of Ocean Air.
In the meantime, Mohssen Andalib joined hands with them and the trio led Ocean Air to first-set win (25-21).
On the other hand, the Lifeline Hospital was supported by German and Brazilian players. The loss of opening set simply aggravated the Lifeline team and they struggled for revenge in the second set. Herbert Vero of Germany returned many of the Ocean Air attack
shots and saved crucial points. Likewise, Vernon Igor put up huge effort to stop the Ocean Air attackers.
However, the Iranian players of Ocean Air continued with success and did not allow Lifeline to come up. Second set also ended in Ocean Air’s favour as they sent 25-17 on board.
It became quite difficult for Lifeline Hospital team to come out blues after the loss of two sets in row. Arash, Nourmohammadi, and Mohssen of Ocean Air performed well and they successfully dragged the opposite side under pressure.
Nonetheless, the Lifeline put up valiant effort in third set and gave a good competition to Ocean Air. Eventually, the hard work paid off and Lifeline claimed third set, 25-23 but Ocean air closed the match by winning fourth set with identical score of 25-23
and announced match victory.
Ocean Travels’ Arash, who settled for the position of the Best Player of the tournament, shared his thoughts at the award ceremony.
He said, “After playing two five setters during the last two days we were very tired today and committed some mistakes in the third set which cost us the set. However we managed to win the fourth set and the match without a fifth set which would have been
difficult.”
