Ocean Skimboarding Question?

Im a very experienced flatland skimboarder. In about a week im heading out to California with my board and I was wondering if anyone could explain in detail how to catch a wave on a skimboard.

Go fast and straight into it. Once you have gone into it, turn and ride it back in. It's just like surfing, but don't worry. I'm a skimboarder and have never surfed before. Just go super fast and don't be afraid to fall. What would help is a fiberglass board that goes up in the front and/or the back....Have fun and if you're too cautious, it wont work...Hope I helped!!
