Ocean Village cruises?

Question

Have you been on one? We're thinking about cruising the med soon and taking our 14 month old, would it be suitable for her too?

I have not been on an Ocean Village cruise but I have cruised the Mediterranean.  So while my answer may not be the best of what you are seeking, I'll just share my experience cruising the Med.

We did our Med cruise out of Barcelona, Spain on a Royal Caribbean ship and it was a 12 day cruise with stops in Villafrance, Florence/Pisa, Rome, Naples, Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, and Ephesus.  Some cruises may also have other stops instead like Sicily, Cofu and other Greek islands and Venice.  On our cruise there was just a few families with young kids.  But here's my point on what to expect (and hopefully will help in your decision).  Almost all of the stops on a Med cruise will involve taking a bus ride to get to an attraction that is historical and unique.  For example, if you want to see the Vatican and Sistene chapel and other sites in Rome, it is an hour's bus ride from the port to Rome.  If you want to see the Acropolis in Athens or Pompeii in Naples, or the Tower of Pisa, again there is a bus ride of about half an hour.  Then at all of these sites there are lines (in Rome very long lines for the Vatican) and a lot of walking.  The walking at the Acropolis is mostly uphill. To see Pisa you are dropped of several blocks from the plaza where Pisa is and walk to and from there.  In Santorini there is a bus or gondola ride to get from the ship to the town.  Mykonos has a short bus ride to town from the port.

My main point is that  a med cruise is not like a Caribbean cruise where you go to an island and/or beach and enjoy leisure.  The tours are long, there is lots of walking and it can be tiring for an adult.  So just bear that in mind when you consider taking your baby along.  Now, that is not to say that you cannot go and just stay on ship, that is an option in some or all of the ports.

I have cruised the med on Ocean Village and had a great time. The ports were great, loads of things to see and do. The ship was very clean and the food was good. The dining room has high chairs for young children and I am not sure, but think, that you can get a cot in your cabin for your daughter

The only thing concerning your child that I would warn you about is the sun, it is normally very hot both at sea and the ports of call, you need to make sure she is well protected from the sun and that she does not get dehydrated.

I am sure you will have a great time.
