We won a free cruise but it's limited to a Category 6A oceanview on the Riviera deck, deck # 1. We're used to having the balcony but the window will be fine. My wife likes to sleep to the sound of the waves, do these windows open?

  1. Because the oceanview cabins are on a lower deck than the balcony cabins, they have to be sealed (and extra-strong) just in case there's a big wave.  (Otherwise water could get into the ship.)

So no, the windows don't open.

  2. No.

  3. No ocean views do not open. You may want to look at an upgrade if you really want a balcony, or, you can also get a recording of ocean waves to play in the stateroom. I would suggest an mp3 player and small speakers. Easier to pack and you can put all sort of relaxing sound on there.

How did you win the cruise?

If it is a certificate (preferred awards) then you can use the monetary value of the certificate toward an upgrade on the cruise.

If it is not, you may be able to call your travel agent or carnival to upgrade. You would only be paying the difference if it is available.

I love balconies for the breeze too.

    Good luck and ENJOY!!
