Ocho Rios shore excrusions?

I am going there on a cruise. I have heard that some of the locals aren't so nice. Should I be worried about being mugged or that sort off thing?

Where would a good place to go for a 70, 50, 15, 12 yr old?

The two main attractions in Jamaica and Dunn's River Falls and a river raft trip.  Dunn's River Falls is a get in the water and get wet type activity that you need to wear a bathing suit for and also beach shoes would be good as you walk, holding the hand of the person next to you, up a waterfall.  Its kinda like going up about 200 steps with water running down them, but the footings is very unsteady (slippery in places) and you can fall into one of the many puddles along the way (but that's kinda the fun of it too).  So the 70 year old may want to be really careful with this one.

The other major attraction is a river raft trip.  Its a float trip and not a rapids trip; its very tame.  All of you could do this..I'm over 60 and have done both with no problem.

What you have heard about not going off on your own in Jamaica is absolutely right.  Go on a ship's tour or pick a taxi or tour at the pier and make sure that you know exactly how much for the ride both ways and whether the taxi will wait or others will be at the gate when you come out.  When you go through a market area look but do not touch anything that you do not plan to buy.  The people who work the markets make their livelihood selling aggressively so understand that and just say no and move on.  You will  be OK in the market and shops area but don't go of fthe beaten path.

When I was there with my wife and 3 kids we did the dolphin encounter.  It was amazing.  A little expensive, but worth it.  they took us there by bus and brought us back to the ship.  we ventured for shopping and my kids got a little scared with the locals.  They can be a little pushy (pretty lady let me braid your hair)  Most people are friendly, but you still have to use some common sense.

Dunns river falls is a must see when in ocho rios. You can climb the falls (if you are up to it).

We took a jeep tour offered through the ship. It was great to see more of the area. The tour guides were locals and they were fantastic.
