  1. Check out Wiesn.de...it will give you the info on when next year will begin.  I would recommend going towards the beginning time of the festival.  I went last year during the closing days...not exactly the experience that I was anticipating.  Honestly, I got the feeling that the locals were just tired of the tourism and anxiously waiting for it to end. (Bavarians are not the warmest of people to begin with).  It wasn't a negative experience, mind you, still a great time to be had, just be prepared for the unexpected--I mean any situation would be the same with millions of gallons of beer and millions of people.

  2. The Oktoberfest now starts in September. They have a website. Look it up; and the dates are listed for each year. It does not last all month.

  3. In about 1872 Octoberfest was moved to start in September..because of the cold weather in the middle to the end of October made it too cold for some to stand around and drink beer and do other stuff. You are right to think about this now because tent tickets need to be obtained very early as a general rule..You should definitely go there once..

  4. Oktoberfest 2008 will be held 20. September til 5th October 2008.

If you can, try to come on weekdays, it's less crowded.

Plan ahead, which tent is the best one for you

    and make reservations if possible.

Things to see are also the big opening ceremony with procession

and the "Trachtenumzug" at the first weekend.

Otherwise just go there and enjoy!!
