Looking for a great place to vacation in the US during first week of October. We have 2 kids, ages 11 and 16. We would like someplace warmish, like in the 70's to 80's that has good site seeing and fishing if possible. Don't want to go outside US this year. Any suggestions would be helpful

  1. Consider Chincoteague Island, VA and its neighbor, Assateague Island.  Summer lingers here and October is fantasic.  Great fishing, shelling, beach walking. National Woldlife Refuge with guided tours.

At some times in Oct. the Monarch butterflies migrate and the islands are on their path.

I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce, honest.  I fell in love with this place in 1985 and permanently relocated in 1994.

Feel free to email me if you like.

  2. south carolina

  3. Albequerque, New Mexico has a hot air balloon going on from Oct. 4 thru Oct. 12 which could be fun for the whole family.

  4. Florida would be a great place.

  5. Maybe Arizona? Or New Mexico? You will probably have to stay more southern to keep the warm weather. Good luck and have fun!

  6. Outer Banks NC. Gorgeous beach areas, towns & islands (many to choose from along the coast), uncrowded even in peak vacation seasons. Our favorite place to vacation!!

Also, Sanibel Island on the Gulf coast of Florida. Never been myself but have heard from others that it's lovely. May be a little more touristy, tho.

We're headed to Atlantic Beach, NC (Crystal Coast) this October. Never been but it's similar to Outer Banks areas as it's just south.

    Enjoy!!

  7. Key West:  great site seeing, activities and great salt water fishing.  You can even take the kids overnight on a deep sea fishing adventure!

Everglades National Park and vicinity:  National Park are always great and Oct is the perfect time of year - mosquito's are pretty low.  If you like camping, fishing, canoeing, boating, hiking etc - this is perfect.  If you want to be closer to civilization, you can stay in the Miami area and drive over into the everglades for specific activities.

Shenandoah National Park:  Oct may be a little too chilly for you, but the trees will be changing and it is sooo beautiful.  Hiking, biking, fishing, camping (or rent a nice cabin), waterfalls, ranger programs etc.  Just east (a little over an hour) is the Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Park.  Could be a pretty fun trip!

Grand Canyon National Park:  Fall and Winter is the best time to fish for trout!  Plus - such a cool place!

Although the temp will vary drastically depending on if you are on the rim or in the canyon.

I know a lot of the NPs allow fishing, but I'm more of a hiker and photographer than a fisherman.  You can hit some of the websites and that will give you an idea of what is available.  National Parks - or at least in vicinityral vacinity usually have great sites and a lot ofwhilevities wihle being very family friendly.
