  1. Sly Mr. Dean Koontz is leaving an opening for the next book in the Odd series.

  2. I agree that Dean Koontz was leaving the ending open, but Odd didn't die at the end. He was looking forward to the day when he would see Stormy again.

He traces out the stars that form Cassiopeia, which was the name of Stormy's mother. Personally, though maybe others don't see it this way, I thought that Annamaria was supposed to be Stormy's mother. (I realize Stormy's mother was dead, but it seemed like there was supposed to be a strangeness going on in which Odd was almost between the two worlds at times.)

I also thought in the end, when he says he sees Stormy in the mother's face, Odd was talking about both the stars and Annamaria.

However, Dean Koontz did leave it open to interpretation. I expect we'll find out more whenever the next book is written and published.
