Odd Ticking Noise found on 2003 Lincoln LS V8.?

I have a 2003 Lincoln LS V8 with 46000 miles on it. It used to have a nice gutteral purr whenever the car was idling but now it has an odd ticking noise that is reminiscent of sounds much older cars would make. I have added a K&N intake to it but other than that not much has changed.

What could be the source of that ticking? Its nothing terribly alarming, I just worry it could be a sign of something bad to come.

My only thoughts are perhaps I have blown a spark plug and it is misfiring causing the tick.

  1. I would first have the oil pressure checked, and also check the oil for particle's of metal on the dip stick. Also make sure you are using the proper grade of oil being 10-40, 5-20, 20-50. The oil could be too thin of a grade for your engine, which could cause a low oil pressure to your engine components. Spark plugs do not normally cause this condition as you described. A lower Oct fuel will cause a pinging noise during acceration, which your car normally use a higher grade of fuel oct rating.

  2. that could be the problem or maybe a lifter.
