Odd cat- your opinion?

Question

I have a cat, she's about 9 yrs old .Now, i've never had a cat before , she's my first lol. We rescued her from a shelter about 8 months ago and we have noticed she does some...odd things?

She is constantly sitting on paper

- Newspaper

- Mail

- napkins

- Magazines

We recently discovered a leak in the bath tub, she gets in the tub and drinks the water drops

When we turn a radio on or a movie with music, she comes running from wherever she was napping ( lol )

and sits and listens quite intently.

She cuddles up to our dog and they nap together- its adorable.

She eats dog food???

Her name is Louisa & she is a great cat, I just wanted to make sure these were just quirks of hers and not her letting us know something was wrong..& we just weren't picking up on them!

Hah. You're cat sounds quite cute & fun.

I especially love how (s)he runs to music. :)

But they are just quirks.

My cat also does some strange & bazaar things. I love it.

Cats love to sit on things like paper.  They also love cardboard boxes.  They definitely like to check out whatever's new to a room.  My cats will sit on my briefcase the second I put it down.

She probably enjoys the fresh dripping water.  Get her a cat fountain - they're quite nice and filter the water so it stays clean.

Cute about the music - some just really like it.

Some cats do like dogs.  I have one like this but my dog looks nervous when she does it - even though he's 100 lbs LOL

Dog food is very bad for cats.  It contains far too little protein and plant ingredients cats can't digest.  Keep it away from her as she may fill up on it and not eat her food then end up malnourished.

All of the things you mentioned are typical cat behavior.

Almost every cat sits on paper or plastic bags.

They l**k water.

Cats are curious and want to see what's on TV.

My cat eats dog food.  

It's sweet that she cuddles up to the dog.\

Nothing's wrong with the cat.

Your cat isn't odd at all.  Mine does the exact same things.  Whenever I'm reading the newspaper, a magazine or my mail, she has to come and try to sit on it, preventing me from reading -- just to let me know that SHE'S more important than anything I'm reading.  She also gets excited and nearly runs me over every time I walk into the bathroom.  She jumps up on the sink and stares at the faucet until I turn it on for her so that she can get a drink.  Also, lots of times, when I have to be gone for a while, I leave the TV or radio on because she loves both of those things.  In fact, she's such a music lover that when I was watching American Idol auditions (you know, those really horrible singers), she'd put her ears back and give the TV a nasty look when she heard somebody singing really badly!

The only thing you should be concerned about is your cat's love of dog food.  Dogs and cats have very different nutritional needs, so dog food really isn't good for her.  Dog food has lots more grains and not as much meat as a cat needs -- also, cats need taurine, which dog food doesn't have.  If she's filling up on dog food, she won't eat enough of her cat food, and she'll end up malnourished.

she sits on your papers because you read them. Cats stare at their preys, so they think you have a prey when you 'stare' at the newspaper. her sitting on it is as if she wants to tell you 'look its not that hard to cath it'.

drinking water from the tap is something quite a lot of cats like to do.

music is interesting to some cats indeed.

Dog food had meat in it and you cant blame her for liking it...

Normal cat behavior in my house. My cats prefer to lay on paper too, or anything else.The water in the tub or sink is normal too.

they like drips.Whenever I sit somewhere I get immediatly coated in cats wanting to sleep on me or get brushed or just petted.I have 4.

Don't Worry, my kitty does these things all time, it's perfectly normal! My cat puts her head in water glasses and drinks from them. It's nothing at all, just cute behavior!

that is absolutely fine ! all the cats ive had in the passed have done weird things but all of them so far have sat on things like that because i guess its something different?

also one of my passed cats paws .. she was always up for listening to everything like being in the room and then another cat felix he hated being in the room .. all cats are different!

Nope, sounds like your cat is completely normal. :) My cat loves to lay on  any paper lying around too and often enjoys curling up in the sink rather than the bathtub. He also enjoys the radio, we always leave it on when we leave for a long time. And that's really adorable how your cat and dog get along so well! Cats are strange creatures, but I'm sure you'll get used to it. :D And as for the dog food... I guess everyone's got their own unique food preference!

Sounds like a normal cat! The only thing that is slightly odd about her is her penchant for dog food- generally, cat food has more fat in it (more fat= more flavor), so both breeds will try to eat cat food. If her eating habits are a problem, I recommend changing the brand of dog food.

yep that's what cats do mine use to cuddle with my dog but in stead of the cat eating dog food my dog eats cat food
