Odd category but relevant-Melvin Burgess book...?

Author Melvin Burgess wrote a book called "Sara's Face" which I have read was based on a real case. (Yahoo). But WHAT case? It musta been a creepy one. You'd know if you've read the books it'd be creepy:( Who attempted this? On who? I googled "Sara Carter" and "Jonathon Heat", but nothing helpful. PLEASE WHAT CASE IS THE BOOK BASED ON? I NEED TO KNOW!!!
