Question:

Odd sleeping habit, is it OK?

My 1 year old daughter has just started sleeping in a really strange position. It looks like she was sitting down, and leaned herself forward so she's lying on her face with her hands under her head. No matter how I put her down to sleep, she keeps ending up in that position. It's really scary to wake up and see her sleeping like that. She doesn't sleep with blankets, pillows, or stuffed animals. Is that a dangerous way for her to sleep, or since she's a year old, is it something I shouldn't worry about?

  1. It's fine. The most you may have to deal with is if her legs fall asleep, lol, toddlers don't like that. My brother always slept like that as a young child, and my daughter(19 months) does the same, with her butt in the air, lol. But she's a year, so she can roll over if she needs to, and change positions. Just enjoy the quirks and remember them so u can make fun of her when she grows up, lol. Good luck!

  2. I'm not sure there's anything you can do You already lay he down in a "good" position and she not sleeping with blankets, pillows or stuffed animals. Give it little time and if you are stilled bothered by it mention it to her doctor next time you have a visit.

  3. I wouldnt be too concerned but you can always call your ped. and they can let you know if you should be worried, my son is just like me he sleeps on his stomach one leg tucked under him, he has always preferred to sleep on his stomach then on his back.

  4. She should be old enough to pick her own position that's comfy for her, and to turn over if she really can't breath or her arms fall asleep. My son used to sleep in a similar position - on his stomach face down with his butt sticking up in the air. She should be fine.

  5. Sounds like a normal thing.  She's kind of in the fetal position, but face down instead of on her side.  I'd say there's not a problem :)
