I did not get airborne in contract, what are the odds I'll get a slot while in infantry OSUT?

  1. Since airplanes do crash, they are never perfectly good and you can try, but it is sometimes hard to do for some reason in infantry OSUT if you don't have it already in your contract (I reclassed and they always ask in any 'soft-skill MOS, no beg!). Thing is the Drills and your company commander will ask when you start making a stink. I know from doing the same thing when I went 20 years ago, but things do change of course. You might beable to get it (especially if someone gets hurt or drops out of OSUT). Worse case scenario, just be persistent and keep trying. Don't get it, re-up for an airborne assignment first chance you get at your next unit.

So try before you ship, redo your contract now. Enlist for an 75th Ranger one or SF (SOPC) vs. getting nothing and taking the chance of ending up in a leg, mech unit and having to re-up and then going to an airborne unit like I had to. I mean it is a delay, but why take the chance when you can be a paratrooper now.

    My 2 cents...

    H-minus!

  2. Never jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

  3. there's always slots to be filled in airborne infantry. i don't see anyone denying such a request
