Question:

Odds of becoming a pilot in the USAF?

I'm working hard (school wise) to become a pilot in the US Air Force. Currently, I have a 4.0 PGA (point grade average), and I'm the top student in my entire.. virtual.. homeschool.. thingy. Anyway, I'm wondering what the odds are of actually succeeding in my dreams to become a fighter pilot? I'm not colorblind, I don't smoke, do drugs, or drink, I'm 5'9 last time I checked, and I know a fair amount of knowledge about aviation. I hope to become a fighter pilot, flying something along the lines of the F-15, possibly the F-22 or F-35. Anyone here (who actually knows what I'm talking about) know the odds of fulfilling my dreams?

  1. You definately sound like a great candidate for the AF. The only thing is, you have to be an officer to be a pilot. And you have to have a 4year degree to go in as an offficer. As soon as you have a 4 yr degree, they will accept you to fly right away. :)

  2. depends on your score..college degree and you must be a officer

its been awhile since I've seen a fighter pilot lol..

no fighter jets on the base I live at :(

  3. So far your set up for it. Just make sure you keep your eye sight good. Mine kept me out of a lot of Army jobs. Just try your best man, and you really can get it. It's basicly the best job in the world in my opinion, so you have to do better than most. If you still succeed in becomming a pilot but don't get top 5% in your class you'll still get to fly, but you wont be given a choice. The top of the class get to pick their aircraft model they want to fly.

  4. Homeschool?  not  all that great actually.   you have no sports, team or otherwise.  No school clubs or leadership roles like Team Captain or President of the Chess club.   do you at least have community involvement?  volunteering at Church or the local food bank?

just about EVERYBODY who applies to and is accepted to any of the Service Academies have 4.0s or better.  if your HS program is not recognized as a valid one by the military, it will be useless.

do you have Pre Calc and physics?  are the courses AP or Honors?
