West Brom striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794 revealed that he was on the verge of leaving the Hawthorns, but was persuaded by new manager Steve Clarke to stay put and is relieved that he chose to stay with the club.
The 31-year old Nigerian striker had been linked with a move away from the club at the start of the summer transfer window, but Clarke had no intention of letting go of the player who had been so instrumental in West Brom’s success last season.
Odemwingie scored 15 goals in his first full Premier League campaign two seasons ago, and was prolific last season as the Baggies secured a top half finish in the English top flight.
The player had been linked with a move to Qatari club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Gharafa-c38306, who had made two bids to land his signature. There had been rumours about a training ground bust-up with the manager, which made a move away from Birmingham inevitable.
However, Odemwingie himself denied the incident, and said that he had a conversation with Clarke that made him reconsider his decision of leaving the club.
"Summer was a time when, at my age, I had second thoughts about continuing to play at this level," Odemwingie told reporters.
"I thought there would be nothing new for me at West Brom and I gave it a try (asked about leaving) to see what would happen.”
"But the club said that it was too early for me to go and they thought I could play an important role for them and keep playing.”
"I don't know where (talk of the bust-up) came from. People would have seen afterwards if there was a problem."
The player said that Clarke was the primary reason why he chose to stay with West Brom for another season. The manager had convinced Odemwingie about West Brom’s ambition and had promised him that the team will deliver, and that they’ll need him to achieve
this.
West Brom have enjoyed a flying start to the season so far, and the Nigerian striker is happy to have stayed with the club. Odemwingie hopes to help his team build on last season’s success and finish in the top 6.
