Oder Tjasa and Davis Maclin shine at 2011 FINA World Junior Championships - Day five: Recap
Day five of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships began in brilliant fashion with the impressive splashes of Oder Tjasa and Davis Maclin in the final heats in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, August 20. The final session conducted Women’s 1500m freestyle and
50m butterfly races.
Initially, the Women’s 1500m freestyle crown was taken over by Tjasa Oder of Slovenia with an impressive mark of 16 minutes and 18.63 seconds. Meanwhile, Rachel Zilinskas of United States of America won the silver medal on the podium by posting a winning
time of 16 minutes and 18.85 seconds and Claudia Dasca of Spain took home the bronze medal of the platform by submitting a sterling time of 16 minutes and 24.30 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Michelle Weber of South Africa was placed fourth in a time of 16 minutes and 27.14 seconds and Maria Vidal Vilas of Spain earned fifth place honours with a matchless time of 16 minutes and 27.75 seconds. Bonnie Macdonald of Australia
finished sixth in 16 minutes and 31.59 seconds, while Gillian Ryan of United States of America was placed seventh in a time of 16 minutes and 40.49 seconds.
Donata Kilijanska of Poland earned eighth place honours with a mark of 16 minutes and 42.75 seconds. Tabitha Baumann of Canada settled ninth in a time of 16 minutes and 47.61 seconds, whereas, Giulia Gabrielleschi of Italy was placed tenth in a time of 16
minutes and 50.58 seconds.
In the meantime, the Women’s 50m butterfly title was taken over by United States’ Maclin Davis with an impressive time of 24.26 seconds. Mihael Vukic of Croatia snagged silver medal on the podium by posting a victorious time of 24.30 seconds, while Martino
Lucatello of Italy snared bronze medal with an impressive mark of 24.54 seconds.
Yevgen Koptyelov of Ukraine and Erich Peske of United States posted a matching time of 24.88 seconds for fourth place. Matthias Bellance of France was placed sixth in a time of 24.94 seconds, while Yunpeng Liu of China earned seventh position in 25.08 seconds.
Reynard Wessels of South Africa settled eighth with a time of 25.44 seconds.
The winners were awarded medals and accolades because of their scintillating swims after the session’s completion.
