Odisha v Uttar Pradesh – Ranji Trophy, 2012/13 (Group B) – Match Update – Uttar Pradesh win by 43 runs
A stellar bowling performance from Imtiaz Ahmed saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy, played from December 29 to 31 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
The game commenced with Odisha winning the toss and choosing to field first, and the team’s Deepak Behera (17.5-6-37-6), Basant Mohanty (18.1-7-28-2), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Biplab-Samantray-c1165 (12-5-30-2) put forth solid performances to bowl UP out for a low total. Only a total
of four batsmen – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mukul-Dagar-c2034 (29), Akshdeep Nath (37), and Ali Murtaza (24) – managed to progress beyond single-digit scores. The rest remained lacklustre, and UP eventually found themselves bowled for a meagre final total of 160.
However, while they had gotten started on the right note, Odisha were unable to carry a similar momentum into their batting performance, and registered a disappointing first innings total, after Imtiaz Ahmed (21-6-45-5), Ankit Rajpoot (11-3-33-2), Sudeep
Tyagi (10-2-40-1), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Halhadar-Das-c61303 (19), Deepak Behera (17), Lagnajit Samal
(12), and Basant Mohanty (13*) were unable to add substantially to the team total, while the rest of the batting order crumbled without putting up a fight. Eventually, Odisha were all out at 127.
UP’s second innings was even worse than their first, with Basant Mohanty (15-4-31-4) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Deepak-Behera-c53470 (9.1-1-27-3) ensuring that only three batsmen were able to exceed single digit scores. The rest were unable to contribute much, while four batsmen in total
failed to rack up any runs at all. UP were eventually bowled for 111, and set Odisha a final 145-run target.
The target was far from challenging, but UP’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Niranjan-Behera-c79659 (15), and Lagnajit Samal (13)
were the only batsmen who put up a fighting performance, while the rest failed to do much. Odisha were eventually all out at 101, and UP went on to claim a 43-run win.
