Odlanier Solis returns to the ring against Konstantin Airich in a 12-round title bout – Boxing News
Odlanier Solis, the former WBC International and WBA Fedelatin heavyweight champion, is back in action and will enter the ring to take on Konstantin Airich, the current WBO European heavyweight champion, with the IBF Inter-Continental heavyweight title up
for grabs in a 12-round bout on May 19, 2012.
The announcement was made by Kathy Duva of Main Events, one of the promoters of the show, and the ring for the pay-per-view, co-promoted by Arena Promotions, will be stretched at Convention Center situated in Pharr, Texas, United States.
The German Airich who currently holds the IBF Inter-Continental heavyweight gold, will put his title on the line for the second time. Solis and Airich both are prolific heavyweight pugilists who proudly reside in the top world rankings.
Solis, 32, has been in a total 18 bouts and emerged victorious in 17. He has nailed 12 of his opponents by knockout and caught media’s attention with his last engagement against Vitali Klitschko, the WBC heavyweight champion.
The surging Odlanier, who was on a long 17-bout win streak, nailed Ray Austin to become the number one contender for Vitali’s title. But his dream to become the World champion was demolished via first round knockout by Dr. Ironfist, thanks to the knee injury
that rendered him unable to even stand straight.
This was the only loss that Solis received in his career and is now making a comeback from the devastating loss after the time lapse of almost 13 months. Airich, on the other hand, proudly holds the WBO European gold and the IBF intercontinental gold and
will enter in his career’s 30th bout. The 33-year-old has pinned 23 opponents, 17 of them via knockout.
The German Konstantin, widely known as the ‘Sandman’, has improved substantially in his recent bouts and is on a six-bout win streak. His recent win over Ondrej Pala to become the WBO European champion and successful IBF title defence is being highlighted
widely by the boxing fanatics who are denoting him as the possible number one contender for either Vitali’s or Wladimir’s titles.
During the press conference, Solis shared his feelings about how he feels on returning the ring after almost a year and said, “It feels great to be finally back in action and working on my comeback. The last twelve months have been h**l with a lot of setbacks
but now I’m ready to go at it again. Of course, it adds some extra motivation to work with a great champion like Miguel Cotto. We have lots of fun at camp but, of course, we are both very focused and working hard on our goals.”
The pay-per-view still needs to be completed and more bouts will be added in the days to come. As per the announcement, the event will be televised live by TeleFutura.
