I recently bought a 2004 yamaha R1 with 14,800, miles after having it less than a month it was up to 17,000 miles, i know the sprocket is larger as well as the chain, and when i ride beside a another person i can see on the speedo that i am going about 15 mph faster i've found a product (speedohealer) that will fix the issue but what can i do about reversing the odometer? Resale cant be very good on a bike that has over 20,000 miles! And yes i know it is illegal to reset an odometer but i would like to be able to at least set it back to 15,000 so it can show the ACTUAL miles that I put on the bike.

  1. Nope.   Besides, the speedometer is set for a certain sized sprocket.  Sprockets wear out.  So we buy another.  And mybe the person who did had a different combination that he was more happier with(lower geared for more hillier terrain.   You can't prove the ACTUAL mileage.   Live with it.  Otherwise change the combination so you are ultra  hiway geared ( but it will be a dog for pickup because it is geared so high - you have to do both sprockets)

  2. you could replace the speedo with a new and keep receipts.  Then when you go to sell it you can tell them what you believe mileage is based on what it was when you got it,when you noticed problem and when you put new one on.Then on the title it will say mileage different do to mechanical limits. And its not illegal if you have documentation saying changed do to mechanical failure
