Unfortunately Ms. Top Contributer "JC" doesn't know how to properly read and answer a question. I asked for you to point out which species are incompatible so as to help me sort through my options.

For example: female betta, crab, shrimp, loach, livebearer, gourami, danio, catfish, barb, algae eater, cichlid (both African & South American,) newt, salamander, freshwater spiny eel, discus, knifefish, koi, fancy goldfish, and angelfish.

  1. I just answered this question and I think a did a good job at it.  But to make it short.

Goldfish go with other Cold water fish

Cichids should be kept with other Cichids of similar temperaments

Bettas do well with most peaceful fish or same size.

Newts and Salamanders do best with cool water so no tropical friends for them.

Live-bearers, most gouamis, Danio, Some Catfish, barbs, algae eaters, angelfish, and yes the betta are all community tank fish.

The Knifefish and eel are not for beginner's and grow to be over 1 foot. The Discus is a hard fish to care for due to being so sensitive to water changes and water chemistry.  They do best with its own kind in a species only tank.

    I don't know about crabs.

  2. Gourami and Cichlid are pretty aggressive so I would say that they are incompatible, well, if you have male cichlids they are fin rippers and will basically attack the smaller fish, the females on the other hand will normally sit in the corners, so it depends. Either of the two, good luck

When your picking fish, just look/ask if they are community fish and if they are, you're ok. That or make sure that they are females. But keep away from female mollys (even though you didn't list that) because they almost always are pregnant.

  3. salamanders and newts need to be kept cool (under 24C is a must under 21C is better) will eat small fish (and may attempt to eat larger fish) and can be stressed out by big fish

so that means non of the this on your list are any good
