  1. The newest

  2. Currently the five Conquest class ships:

Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty & Freedom.  They are all 110,000 GRT (gross registered tons - a space rating, not a weight rating) are the largest ships in Carnival's fleet.

However, next summer (2008) the Carnival Splendor will enter service.  It will be 113,000 GRT.  It will spend the summer in Europe.  It will then move to Florida at the end of October where it will remain until the end of January 2009.  It will sail around South America ending up in Los Angeles, where it will take over the Mexican Riviera route from the Carnival Pride.

Then in 2009 the Carnival Dream will enter service.  At 130,000 GRT it will then be Carnival's biggest ship.  In 2011 The Carnival Magic will enter service.  As the Carnival Dream's sister, it will be the same size, 130,000 GRT.

Currently the second biggest Carnival ships are the sisters, Carnival Victory and Carnival Triumph.  Both of these ships are 101,500 GRT.  In 1996 Carnival started sailing the Carnival Destiny.  At 101,350 GRT, it was the first cruise ship to exceed 100,000 GRT and it remained the biggest ship afloat until the Grand Princess entered service in 1998.

These eight ships (Destiny, Triumph, Victory, Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty and Freedom) are the only ships currently in Carnival's fleet that exceed 100,000 GRT (until next summer that is).

Carnival owns Princess, and Princess has several ships that exceed 100,000 GRT.  Carnival also owns Cunard which has the Queen Mary II (QM2).  The QM2 is the second largest ship (at 150,000 GRT) afloat (after the three Freedom class ships: Freedom, Liberty and next year Independence of the Seas).  The QM2 is also the largest ocean liner afloat.  The QM2 is longer than the Freedom class ships, however, the Genesis ships (due out in 2009 and 2010) will be even longer than the QM2.

  3. Carnival sucks. Try Royal Carribean!

  4. The Carnival Splendor which set sail in July 2008 in Europe and make her US debut in NOvember 2008 is the largest and newest Carnival ship.
