  1. I've listened to quite a bit of what the 'to date'  candidates have talked about, and I haven't heard any of them mention anything about the railroads. And I wouldn't really expect to hear anything on this issue either. The railroads are essential, just as the Interstate Highway System is.  Hoghead, just above is right, the Democrats usually support the railroad workers. But now, even that is changing. In the early 1990s, Bill Clinton wanted to take all the Railroad Retirement Program money for government use, and put railroaders on Social Security. The idea was dropped in only a short time after some harsh statements from the Union. But now, in recent weeks, Hillary has promised to raise taxes. Higher taxes for companies will reduce profits and effect jobs. And higher taxes for the working man is never good. My attitude is, choose a candidate based on other issues. The railroads are essential, but either side of the political isle could end up in the wallets of the railroad man.

  2. Democrats speak for rail labor, usually.

Republicans speak for railroad companies, usually.

Against the latter, only the unions and the miracle of collective bargaining provide any modicum of protection.

A proven record for rail support is nonexistent, as far as current candidates go, to my knowledge, on either side on any issue. Gee.  You'd think someone would have a bit more than a passing interest in rail security, huh?
