Of what political importance is the american civil rights movement?

That would depend on your point of view.  If you are a White Male like myself it has little importance to you--in fact it could be thought of as a detriment.  If you are a anything else then it is important as it makes you a special class that has 'civil rights' protections that White Males do not have.  There is the un-PC version of reality.
