  1. Where I live in Mexico, there is a community of about 450 homes on the beach. This is in Sonora where it is desert and the sun shines about 360 days a year.

Every home has Solar power with back-up gas generators and large battery banks. They are not poor people and can afford any system they want.

To make a long story short, they are all now willing to pay 5000-7000 dollars cash just to get electrical power in. Solar is wonderful, but it is practically impossible to have a system that will provide any heat and air conditioning. Then there is the huge cost of the system ($30-40,000), the battery and generator maintenance. Having to constantly be aware of every watt used, unless you like running the expensive generator. ETC, ETC ETC. Listen folks, I love Solar, but I hate people that talk about solar who know nothing about it, or are liars (Salesmen or Politicians) - Same thing.

  2. you don't have to live in a community, individual houses can be fit with a solar / wind system as well.
