Off competitive mark, Knockara Beau to regain best form in Flannigan Skip Hire Handicap Chase at Kelso
Lackamon surely deserves plenty of respect for his promising effort on last month’s seasonal return. After a long break of more than six months, Sue Smith’s charge returned to action in style, ending up third behind a couple of strong runners at Newcastle.
The 7-year-old is expected to build on that, but the preference is for Knockara Beau, who is certainly more than capable of outsmarting even the best in business. Despite the fact that George Charlton’s trainee showed nothing good on his fresh seasonal comeback,
one needs a big heart to overlook him.
The 9-year-old has a touch of class, and will be more than tough to beat if regaining his best form. He is on a competitive mark at the moment, and a short field of eight horses is a huge plus.
Knockara Beau’s record at Kelso is pretty impressive, as he won three of the five races here. On his last visit here in February, the son of Leading Counsel grabbed the second position behind Simonsig.
Including mark and a small field, there is plenty going for him. So, there is no reason why he should not come up with a fascinating act in today’s contest. On Kelso’s good to soft surface, the contestants will start running at 14:05 GMT.
The competition will be for a prize of £7,148, over a distance of two miles, seven furlongs and 110 yards. Lackamon looked a decent and tough novice last term, and carries the second best claims today.
Out of others, no one is likely to trouble this pair. Merigo is a great runner, but might find this really tough. Blenheim Book is very high in the weights, and could face difficulties even if regaining the form. Relax is respected on spring form at 2m4f,
but no one should trust him blindly. Only a flawless effort would save Lockstown from a defeat here.
Cavers Glen pulled up over C&D back from a long break. Bouncing back is not going to be an easy task for Alistair Whillans’ charge. Similarly, Dystonia’s Revenge looks vulnerable in this better company. We wish the best of luck to all the participants.
