Off of long beach Ca. where are the "outer Banks"?

I didn't know there were "outer banks" in CA.  I grew up there and have never heard of them.  I do know that there are Outer Banks in NC, my in laws have a house there.

if you are going out of long beach the outer banks that are usually referred to are the ones labeled 181, 43 and 182 In the 976 tuna outer banks map. If you have a big boat and a lot of time you run out to cortez bank or some of the ones in mexico

Out of San Diego, the "inner banks" are "high spots" south (in Mexican waters) roughly 20-30 miles offshore, (like the 425 and the 302) while the "outer banks" are ones which are 50 or more miles out, more west than south (the Butterfly and farther). (See the chart at the link below.) (The numbers are the depths, in fathoms, of the shallowest spot on the bank.)

I would assume the "outer banks" out of Long Beach means basically the same -- areas which are out beyond Catalina, maybe as far as the Cortez bank. If you're going for a day and a half trip (or longer) you can make it to the Cortez or other spots, even into Mexican waters. (Most boats cruise at 10-12 knots, the Cortez is roughly 100 miles out, so it's a 9-10 hour run.)

The actual destination will probably depend on where the tuna have been biting recently.
