I want to travel by trains with a cheap day return ticket. Can anyone tell me what time the evening peak time start? 16:00 of 16:30?

I know the morning off-peak start 9:30.

Thank you.

  1. The evening peak is dependant on where you are, for instance most of the South East of England does not have a Peak evening restriction on Tickets, although has a peak between 15.30 and 19.00 in general where seats are at a premium.  Most of the Longer distance TOC's will restrict travel between 15.00 and 20.00 depending on where you are starting from and how popular the service is.

The only real way to check a service restriction is to ask at the Ticket Office where you purchase your ticket from.  Unfortunatley there are so many restrictions (when I was last working in a ticket office the book was just over 50 pages and trying to fathom out a specific restriction is hard enough even then!) still in force that not everyone gets them right even now.

    Good Luck hope this helps

  2. It depends where you are travelling to and from.

  3. Can you tell me which trains are you looking for.

On New Jersey Transit/MTA Metro-North West of Hudson

    * Off Peak Round Trip tickets are not valid during a.m. peak period traveling to/ via Newark, New York, Hoboken, or Secaucus (trains arriving at their final terminal between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.) ; or during p.m. peak period traveling from Newark, New York, Hoboken, or Secaucus (trains departing their terminal between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.). For specific restrictions, review trains shaded within double-lines on rail timetables, which require payment of the full one-way fare. For additional information, call 1-973-275-5555.
