Off-season volleyball conditioning?

I'm thinking of doing JV volleyball next year. And I know its going to be so much tougher, what kinds of things should I do that would really help my stamina, and strength.

I will do my conditioning during the SUMMER.

This is what I was thinking of doing:

100-200 push-ups.. (start slowly and increase as the month or week progresses)

run a mile or half a mile

drink LOTS of water

work on my abs

do at least 500 sets a day

do about 500-1,000 bumps (i'm trying to be a libero for my team)

practice on my serves for about 15-30 minutes (i want to be able to jump serve)

IS THIS ALL TOO MUCH?? I NEED TIPS AND HELP THANKS

(i was thinking of doing this 5-7 times a week.)

i want to take vbal seriously because its the only sport i've rele been involved in.

  1. I would say if you're relly serious about volleyball that's a good amount but something alce i sugest would be latter drills, becuase in volleyball  have to move around alot and stuff.


  2. Make sure you do stuff to work on your vertical because that is really important.  Don't run more then a mile because if you run to long of distances your vertical can actually decrease.

  3. to jump serve work on it with a wall

    even though ur a libero i would work on hitting so u can jump-serve. the key to jump serving is timing and throwing. for setting, do those 500 sets against a wall, do you know what i'm saying? I would do a lot to work on thighs, I do gymnastics also so i can jump pretty hard. you could do those bend jumps like you're in a sitting position and jump up. that's probably what you need most to work on for jump serving. remember volleyball is for fun! it is kinda too much, but if u think u can keep it up go for it!

  4. Just tryout for a club team. they keep you in shape and you actually play. also when you do all that make sure you're doing it RIGHT otherwise you will get bad habits.

  5. holy cow.....500 sets and 500-1000 bumps a day? Your arms will fall off of you! Keep it small to begin with and when you're getting the hang of it increase it gradually. The serve routine you have is about perfect; during our practices we go for about 10-15 min. Running distance will increase your stamina, but don't run all that every day! Do some jump training when you don't run. Weight training will help a lot too.

    During our off-season I have track in the spring. Some girls play basketball and softball as well. I'm thinking about softball, though.

  6. That sounds like a good plan but d.a.m.n girl, that seems like a little to much to do 5-7 times a week. You need to do everything on your list but try 3-4 days a week...give yourself a break once in a while. And for your serves...practice them a lot more than 15-30 minutes...especially if you want to learn how to jump serve. Make sure you master the regular serve before you even try the jump serve cause it is a lot harder than you might think.

  7. I don't know if it's too much - but you certainly should be in shape.

    Are you going to be playing any actual volleyball in the off-season? You should look into camps, clubs and open gyms in your area to give you a chance to actually play the game - that's what is going to help you improve your skill level, and team work the most.

    Talk to the coach at the high school, and see if they know of any good volleyball camps (they might run one). Ask him/her about volleyball clubs (some coaches don't like them), if they like one, find out about it, and try to get on it. Open gyms are good places to go to play volleyball, without the formality of set teams (you get put with a team for the night).

  8. WOW thats great that u r doing that all i can say is get alot of arm muscles,  work ur butt off on serves, and do GREAT on passing!  GOOD LUCK

  9. Sounds like a great routine.  The only thing I would add is to run stairs or another jumping exercise.  That is where you are truly going to notice a difference.

  10. I think it sounds like a great off-season workout plan...but i think the 500 bumps is a little excessive...i would just practice bumping for a certain amount of time, say 20-30 minutes!!!
