  1. Yeah, they have got you by the bollcz. If you work for the gov., I am surprised that you aren't a member of Unison or Usdaw. I thought you could only sign yourself for a certain amount of hours until the quack has to do it to cover yourself for the other 2 days. If you haven't done this, then you will have to do an hour overtime to get your money back! And lets face it-you can't argue with them-they made the laws up!

  2. the first 7 days is a self certificate so they would not pay you anyway. Its after the 1st weeks they have to pay.It also depends on how long you have worked for them.

  3. Yes, that's common when industrial action is taking place.

If you are where I think you are, the council are struggling like .... for cash, so any excuse not to pay will be a good one!

  4. Yes, indeed they are. All your employer has, is your word that you were off sick and not on strike. So, you need to have a dr's letter to prove you were off sick and not striking.

  5. The link below explains all about sick pay and your entitlements etc

    http://www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefits...

on no account listen to any one else.  what the above site tells you are the facts and not based upon hearsay or twaddle.

  6. Read your contract of employment And  you will find you don't get paid statutory sick pay for the first 3 days anyway. The only way you will get paid is if there is an agreement in you contract of employment that your employer pays you. If so you will need the letter. Also it would prove you were not on strike if they pay you direct.
