Off to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for my honeymoon. Travel advice (other than "don't drink the water")?

We're pretty comfortable with the international travel (airports, passports, etc). It's more finding good, safe places to eat and getting around Puerto Vallarta safely.

  1. Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful place and most of the hotels and restaurants have purified drinking water. I would ask first. There is an excellent restaurant that the locals go to that is on top of a mountain that has great food and a fabulous view, called Aye Carumba. Ask your hotel or any taxi driver. We stayed in Nuevo Vallarta when we went which is not far, the newer area. You may want to try one of the restaurants over there. They have a couple outside restaurants that are real good. Have a wonderful time and congratulations.

  2. *** Take your ATM Bank card.  You will get funds in Pesos and get the best rate from your bank.

I have been travelling to Mazatlan for the past 25 years and have no trouble findng safe places to eat, inlcuding places where mainly locals eat.  Restaurants that are catering to tourists will not try and make you sick by serving non-purified water.  We eat salads, iced drinks - no problema man!

If you are really concerned there is an oral vaccine "Dukulor" which must be taken one week apart, starting 2 weeks before travel date.  Requires a prescription from your doctor,

  3. Taking buses around town is easy and cheap.  If you take taxis, settle on the price before getting in.  Prices in town are higher when a cruise ship is docked.  La Clif (The Cliff) at the southern end of town is a beautiful, memorable restaurant, perfect to go to while on your honeymoon.  It's on a cliff overlooking the ocean.  Perfect at sunset.  You'll need to make reservations.  The brunch (I think Sundays?) at the Sheraton Bouganvillas is awesome!  Have a wonderful honeymoon and enjoy Puerto Vallarta!

  4. Watch out for those little roadside eating shacks unless you see many locals also eating there. Don't brush your teeth with the local water too. Pass on the ice in the drinks unless it's well water. 1 final warning; It always seem the Mexico Sun Gods prey victims on light color skins. US dollars are widely accepted everywhere in PV but pesos are nice for tips, bargaining, and general use as well.

  5. Hi

every where they accept US currency.

but it will be better to convert your money into pesos, just go inside any bank and they will give u a better rate.

    have fun.

Just feel free to drink the water in Vallarta.

All ice cubes in restaurants are made with the best quality of water.

Puerto Vallarta is one of the two cities with certification for PURE and SECURE water for international standards.  (the other one is Cancun).

Also, Puerto Vallarta is the second Gourmet City destination of Mexico.  (the first one is Mexico City).

Puerto Vallarta takes good care of the customers and tourists.  we do not need bad publicity.  I live in Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta is one of the most safe cities of Mexico, as I said before, we do not need bad publicity, so feel free to walk all over at any time at night.

Be sure to get a magazine called Vallarta Lifestyles when you get here.  There is all information about restaurants and good eating places in Vallarta.  It is a pleasure to be in Vallarta, just for the fact of eating reall good.

If you want personal recomnendations you can contact me.  I live here for 35 years and I love eating good.

    Best trip.
