Offence lapses reduce Cincinnati Bengals to 13-17 loss to visiting Miami Dolphins – NFL Recap
The Cincinnati Bengals had bounced back on the miserable loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the season opener to register two successive wins in the next two games, only to end up throwing away another 13-17 loss to visiting Miami Dolphins on Sunday (Oct. 07).
Quarterback Andy Dalton threw two interceptions and was sacked three times that ruined the Bengals' hopes of beating the strongest defence side in the league.
Dalton’s overthrown ball which was intercepted by safety Reshad Jones in the second last minute took away the game from the hosts. The win has helped the Dolphins to improve their standing on the league’s points table to 2-3.
It was a bad game for Dalton as he could not manage to beat Dolphins defence and ended up completing 26 out of 43 passes for 234 yards. It was a disappointing effort by him and even more hurting for the Bengals that he was sacked three times and two of his
miscalculated throws were taken away by the opposition to their gains.
The Bengals with the loss have slipped down 3-2 in the American Football Conference (AFC) North division and if the Pittsburgh Steelers manage to win their next game they will equalise with them 3-2 too.
The Steelers have played four games and stand 2-2 at the moment given they have taken out a bye week. The Baltimore Ravens are leading the division. Their only loss was against the Philadelphia Eagles otherwise they have been impressive so far.
It is rather an awkward position for the Bengals as they were humiliated by the Ravens in the season opener but managed to recover from that loss to do better in the next two games. Now they have let their chances against the Dolphins go begging.
The visitors have been struggling in the last two games where a win was too a remote opportunity for them but their comeback against the in-form Bengals was a befitting reply to the opposition.
Dalton admitted in his post-game remarks that they ruined the chances with their own hands. He went on to concede that it he was poor showing from the offensive line with him as their leader.
He said:
"The offense didn't play well across the board. It's tough sitting here where we are. We had our chances, but we couldn't get it done."
The QB did not explain much about his miserable form on the day as he otherwise has impressed everyone since the outset of his career. His side must come together to note their lapses in individual capacity and overall as a team and rectify before further
suffering.
Coach Marvin Lewis did not say what went wrong with the team as they failed to coordinate a consistent effort throughout the game and despite holding an edge over the opposition their loss has a lot to explain.
