Offensive tackle Matt Kalil says he was always confident Minnesota Vikings will pick him - NFL News
The Minnesota Vikings picked University of Southern California offensive tackle, Matt Kalil as the fourth overall pick in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) drafts and Kalil could not contain his excitement at being drafted by the franchise he had his
eyes set on.
The Vikings moved down from their third overall selection to fourth after trading with the Cleveland Browns for additional picks but Kalil was never afraid that the franchise would take someone else.
Speaking to the media after becoming the newest addition to the Vikings roster the offensive tackle said.
“When I saw them trade that pick, it kind of almost made me feel better that they weren't going to trade too far down and they were going to try to get me.”
Kalil also went on to add that he thought he had an idea that he was going to become a Viking and now after the draft he could not picture himself being at any other place.
"I think when I visited. I got good vibes from a lot of the coaches. They were telling me they really wanted me, and once they figured out what they were going to do, they really considered picking me wherever they were going to pick. Really, I got good
vibes from there, but still anxious to find out, but it all worked out and I really couldn't picture myself any other place."
Vikings general manager, Rick Spielman showed his brilliant negotiating skills after gaining a fourth, fifth and seventh round draft pick from the Browns to trade just one spot down.
Spielman also traded with the Baltimore Ravens to take their 29th overall selection in the first round and brought in strong safety, Harrison Smith of Notre Dame to complete a brilliant first day at the drafts.
With these two picks the Vikings have catered to two of the most glaring holes in their roster and the optimism over the team’s chances for the new season is already increasing among fans.
The Vikings ended last season with a 3-13 record as the offensive line struggled to protect quarterback, Christian Ponder.
This season Vikings fans can already feel that the team will deliver some different results.
