my dad is searching for a job in a diff state, and he works for the post office

its all online now and he did an interview for louisiana and after his interivew like a week later it said next to that job on his account that he was in the offer phase for that job. So for anyone who works for the post office and knows about this could you tell me if you for sure know that means he got the job

  1. That means he will be officially offered the job UNLESS there is a problem getting it approved. My husband worked in Boston as a carrier but applied for a transfer to our own town (Plymouth- about 45 minutes out of Boston). He went for the interview & the postmaster & supervisor were more than happy to have him but they had to get approval first since Boston is a different district than Plymouth. Like your dad, he was going through the "offer phase" (lasted about 2 weeks). When one postal worker switches districts, it must be approved by the postmaster of the district he is going to but the postmaster of the district he is leaving must ALSO approve the transfer. Until the district he is leaving gives its approval, the new district can not officially offer your dad the new job. The reason for this approval thing is because the PO is famous for "hiring freezes" where they go years without hiring new career employees so if one district releases one of their employees to another area, they may end up shorthanded & unable to hire anyone to fill the open postion. Usually though, barring an EXTREME shortage, the postmaster will accommodate the request. Also, what happens during the offer phase is that the postmaster of the "new" district will get references from your dad's current office & review your dad's record of service including his Leave/Sick time balance to make sure that your dad is a good employee, doesn't abuse sick time, etc. Once all that is done & is okayed, they will contact your dad with the official job offer/request for transfer. Then they will post his current postion for bid & once it's filled (usually 2-4 week process), he will be released to the new district. Hope that helps.

    Good Luck!

  2. that means somebody else got the job but if they quit or get fired then he gets the job
