Question:

OfficeMax/Staples - How much vacation time do new full time associates get?

Thinking about gettting a full time job at Office Max or Staples - not worried about how much they pay, just need medical benefits (I know they're offered). I have a home biz that provides all the $ I need, so it's more a matter of "get benefits, get some money for savings".

But I want to know what the starting employee gets for vacation/sick time - obviously, since I don't NEED the money, I'll want to take off a fair amount of time.

Anyone know for either of these stores?

Also, anyone know how many hours you have to work to be considered full time at each of these?

  1. 32hrs/week for OfficeMax

You get 5 paid vacation days per year.  Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving - plus two "floating holidays" (you choose when you want to use them)  Your first year you get up to 1 week of YTO (paid vacation) that is earned by multiplying a fraction against the total hours you have worked.  Also you should consider that retail has black out dates during the holidays and in the office supply world also during "back to school".

After a year of service you get up to 2 weeks vacation and you can roll over up to 1 week from the previous year.  After 5 years of service they give another bump in vacation.

Benefits start after 30 days I think, although it might be 90.  They offer 401k with partial matching, dental, vision, medical, FSA's, STD, Life and AD&D.

With all that said they are not hiring a lot of full time associates; unless you apply for a specialist, supervisor or manager position.

*** Also - Starbucks offers benefits for PT workers I think
