my husband is enlisted army(25u). he loves what he does, but with three kids...we want more money to take better care of them. he knows that the training that he loves doing will not be what he will be doing as he goes up in rank. so why not get paid more for doing the paperwork.

he wants to see about ocs or warrant. now i'm wonder which career path do you think is better? what experience do you have to say so? also which one is better for the family(as in free time to spend with the family)?

  1. Since I was an enlisted man in the Navy I am not allow that familiar with the Army.  In the Navy it is easier to become a warrant officer then and officer.  To get into OCS in the Navy you have to have a BA Degree.  At E6 you had a choice of advancing into Chief Petty Officer or becoming a Warrant Officer.  Of course it was a lot easier to become a CPO.  Advancement thru the Warrant Officer program I believe consisted of WO1, CWO2, CWO3 & CWO4.  After that you became a Ensign.

  2. From the outside looking in, there is a big difference in being a Warrant Officer and a Commisioned Officer.

    First off, the job difference.

Warrant Officers are like Enlisted folk with different rank and training. They are out there with the enlisted doing the hand on stuff.

The commissioned officers are usually the ones behind the scene, running things.

Both of them are still going to have about the same hours, but with more stress being commisioned as you are in direct leadership position as the commander of a platoon (at 2LT).

The commisioned pay is better, but it's harder to get a commision.

That's about all I can give yah, good luck and Hooah!

  3. One will probably need a degree, and it also depends on how many years he's been in the military.  He might be passed the time to be an officer.  All he needs to do is talk to a career counselor.

  4. if he doesn't have the 4 year degree in hand, he cannot go OCS.

Warrants are still technical experts and are expected to teach the newly Minted Second Looies.
